Gearbox Oil
As its name suggests, gear oil is formulated to be used in gearboxes, but also can be found in transfer cases, differentials and manual transmissions. It is usually thicker than engine oil or automatic transmission fluid.
Just like any other fluid in a vehicle, it should be changed at specific intervals mentioned in the owner’s manual. As it ages, you may notice abnormal noises from the gearbox or other related parts.
Gearbox oil replacement
- Follow the manufacturer’s recommended type of oil when topping up or refilling the system.
- If your vehicle is subjected to severe driving conditions, your gearbox oil should be changed more frequently than it is recommended by the manufacturer.
