Power Door Lock Actuator
A power door lock actuator is a mechanism mounted inside a door that locks or unlocks the door with a push of a button. By design, it is an electric motor that pulls or pushes a linkage which then opens or closes the door lock.
A faulty power door lock actuator may cause a number of problems, including blocked doors and malfunctioning of the alarm system. In some cases, you may also notice abnormal noises coming from the door when the actuator is engaged.
Power door lock actuator troubleshooting
- Problems with the door lock mechanism or the door lock electrical circuit can mask themselves as signs of a bad power door lock actuator. We recommend you to inspect the entire door lock mechanism before replacing the actuator.
- The door lock actuator can be built into the lock assembly on some newer vehicles. That’s why you may need to replace the entire assembly if the actuator fails to operate.
