Camshaft Actuator
When an engine is running at high or very low RPMs, changing the timing can significantly improve its efficiency and performance. For this purpose some engines come equipped with a camshaft actuator, a mechanical or electronic device installed on the camshaft gear. It changes the timing by slightly advancing or retarding it when the camshaft opens or closes the exhaust or intake valves.
Signs of a bad actuator
- The check engine light is on
- Reduced power and performance
- Misfiring or rough idling
Camshaft actuator repair guide
