Electronic Throttle Unit
An electronic throttle unit controls how much air is sucked by the engine. The unit has a butterfly valve that opens and closes based on the signals it receives from the accelerator and some other sensors.
Signs of a bad electronic throttle unit
- Check engine light turns on
- Poor performance
- Stalling
- Rough idling
Electronic throttle unit operation
- Your electronic throttle unit relies on the throttle position sensor which can be located on your accelerator pedal or placed remotely and be cable operated.
- The throttle unit also provides control of the idle and cruise control operation.
- Most electronic throttle units will allow the vehicle to run slowly if a fault happens.
