Engine Cylinder

Engine Cylinder

Engine cylinders, also called a cylinder block, are machined bores inside the engine block that form the combustion chamber. When the engine is running, the pistons, forced by the combustion process, go up and down within the bores.

Signs of worn-out or damaged engine cylinders

  • Misfiring
  • Engine overheating
  • Increased oil consumption

Engine cylinder repair and maintenance

  • If one or more cylinders are damaged or worn-out, an engine replacement is recommended.
  • Sometimes, the problem can be fixed by a short block replacement if the cylinder head and intake manifold are in perfect condition.
  • On some vehicles, engine cylinders come in the form of sleeves that fit into the engine block. If so, only sleeves may be replaced.
