Timing Belt Tensioner
A timing belt tensioner does exactly what its name suggests, providing the right amount of tension to a timing belt. Depending on the model, a timing belt tensioner can be either spring-loaded or hydraulic operated.
If your timing belt tensioner fails to operate properly, you can face a variety of engine-related problems:
- Grinding or roaring sounds coming from the timing belt area
- Slapping or scraping sounds from the engine
- Loose timing belt, skipping a tooth on the camshaft gear
- Illuminated check engine light
Timing belt tensioner replacement
It is always a good idea to replace your timing belt tensioner every time you replace the timing belt or water pump.
