Canister Vent Valve

Canister Vent Valve

A canister vent valve is a computer-operated valve (solenoid) which regulates the flow of air in and out of the canister. A faulty canister vent valve may prevent fuel from entering the tank when you’re at the pump and cause the check engine light to come on.

Canister vent valve troubleshooting and replacement

  • Canister vent valve problems are difficult to diagnose as they can be triggered by other evaporative system components and even no related sensors and parts.
  • The valve can get stuck in the closed or open position due to dirt and debris.
