EGR Position Sensor
An EGR position sensor, short for exhaust gas recirculation position sensor, is designed to provide the engine control unit with the position of the EGR valve in a vehicle. A malfunctioning EGR position sensor will cause an illuminated check engine light and some other problems, such as rough idling, poor performance and increased emissions.
EGR position sensor troubleshooting
- If a faulty EGR position sensor is built into the EGT valve, you’ll have to replace the valve.
- All EGR passages must be checked and cleaned if needed each time the EGR valve is replaced.
