Exhaust Manifold Gasket
An exhaust manifold gasket is used to ensure a leak-free connection between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head in your vehicle. If it gets damaged or wears out, you may notice an illuminated check engine light, exhaust gas odors coming from under the hood and ticking or tapping noises. Most likely, you will fail a state emissions test.
Exhaust manifold gasket troubleshooting and replacement
- A worn-out or damaged exhaust manifold gasket can cause incorrect oxygen sensor readings, so it must be replaced as soon as possible once the problem is detected.
- It is a good idea to replace the exhaust manifold gasket along with all related bolts and studs when replacing or reinstalling the exhaust manifold.
- A warped exhaust manifold should be replaced with a brand-new one. A resurfaced manifold can get cracked or warped any time.
- If an exhaust gas leak enters the cabin, it can cause drowsiness due to harmful carbon monoxide contained in the gas.
