Steering Rack Boot

Steering Rack Boot

A steering rack boot serves to keep dirt and dust out of the steering rack mechanism. Made of rubber, it provides a working seal between the tie rods and the rack.

Bad steering rack boots can lead to excessive wear of tie rods and the rack-and-pinion assembly, which is why cracked or damaged boots must be replaced once the problem is detected. In some cases, steering rack boots can be oil soaked if there is a leak from the rack.

Steering rack boot replacement

  • Cracked or broken steering rack boots should be replaced as soon as possible. This will prevent your steering rack and tie rods from being damaged by dirt and debris.
  • Since replacing steering rack boots requires disassembling the steering rack, a four-wheel alignment is a must after every steering rack boot replacement.
